PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY – Protection for nurses

As a requirement by hospitals, Code Blue Nurses has $10 million in Professional Indemnity Insurance (PI) cover to assist nurses in the event of an incident where Professional Indemnity Insurance is needed.

Hospitals with Midwifery units are requiring Professional Indemnity cover also. The policy covers nurses in all areas of hospitals and Midwifery areas such as Delivery Suite, pre and post natal.

Once again Professional Indemnity insurance is a requirement laid down by hospitals in a way of spreading perceived risk around between other parties including agencies. Nevertheless all nurses are covered by the Professional Indemnity Insurance of the hospital that employs them for the shift(s). All nurses fall under the "Common Law" principles (law made in the courts) of "Vicarious Liability", which means that they are an extension of the hospital when they are working there and the hospital is liable for their actions.
